Academic Advisors Council

Objectives

The Academic Advisors Council is an organization dedicated to the overall academic concerns of students and to the professional development of academic advisors to offer the best possible services to all students at Mississippi State University. 

  • Facilitate cooperation and exchange of information between persons who perform academic advising functions through regularly scheduled meetings and through the maintenance and distribution of an academic advising directory. 

  • Organize and/or sponsor regular programs for the professional development of academic advisors. 

  • Encourage and support programs intended to improve student retention. 

  • Provide assistance in campus planning and policy development related to the academic advising and academic counseling of students.  

  • Foster and enhance communication between academic advisors, university departments, and administration (i.e., the Registrar’s Office, Admissions & Scholarships Office, Financial Aid & Scholarships, the Learning Center, etc.) 

  • Promote and encourage the professional development—including campus and statewide organizations to regional and national conferences—of Mississippi State University’s campus membership. 

Membership

There is no membership fee and any MSU employee may join the Academic Advisors Council. To maintain accurate membership records, we ask that members renew their membership annually. If you are unsure about your membership status, please contact the Executive Coordinator, Trina Pollan at tpollan@business.msstate.edu.

  • Network with other MSU employees committed to enhancing the academic advising experience.

  • Receive communication related to university updates, curriculum changes, and academic advising policies.

  • Attend professional development events designed to increase your advising knowledge and skills.

Awards and Recognition

The call for university academic advising award nominations is each year between January and February. Guidelines and criteria for the awards below can be found on the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President Office website.
